Broadstreetstudio Mission Statement

So what does Broadstreetstudio have to do with three 'characters' with brushes? You might even go on to ask what representation in painting even means to them. Well, we felt it was time to share the reason why we started Broadstreetstudio.

Have you ever taken a walk at night? Have you walked around your strangely normal geomantic suburban neighborhood around 10:30 at night and you see an old man mowing his lawn? The question you might ask yourself is: Why is this man mowing the grass at night? You may invent your own conclusion to this scenario that makes as little sense as the defense the old man could give you. Chances are, if you are a painter, the thought crosses your mind, "Man that would make an amazing painting!"

To make this clear, we highly respect the old masters for their technique and what they have given to the history of art for the sake of progress. But in today's artwork, with artistic movements ranging from all facets of life and the human residue. We choose painting, not because we want to be a new old master, for what ever that means. This medium gives us the greatest ability to record the strange world we live in. I guess we could take a picture of the man mowing his lawn and run away, but it just wouldn't be the same. Painting the moments that deviate from the normal is something only a painter understands.

Broadstreetstudio is a place where artists could easily agree with our mission. As painters, we are at times required to explain why we think we paint. But, we know we paint because it is the only medium we were meant for. Paint is the only medium in which we feel free to explain and explore our magical and sometimes grotesque world.
